RESIDENTIAL

26 SCREEN BUNGALOW

A Residence set in a hot and dry region like Jaipur demands a climate-responsive architectural approach. With an intent to keep the design complementing the progress and timely-development, the designer has also kept it connected to the locally available resources such as Jali screens and the landscape courts.

To give the house a larger, more opaque mass over the lower floor designer made the structure massing. It helped to incorporate the passive cooling strategy. Unlike most buildings in Jaipur, the harsh external climate has not prevented the house from having large openings and an abundance of light. It has been made possible by designing huge masses that protect interiors from direct sunlight.

These openings are placed along the receded wall surfaces, thus ensuring the entry of only diffused light into the building and limiting heat gain. Traditional Jaali walls act as the second skin for the house and have been interpreted in a contemporary way to achieve the same. With a total area of about 8000 sq ft, the house is a 3-floor structure with a basement below.

The design of the house interior highlights plenty of light and heightens the large and airy spatial qualities. The living areas showcase an open floor plan with appropriately placed visual screening. With customized furniture and minimal private spaces, the interior gives freedom of seating and lounging. The balconies and terraces on the upper floors offer much-needed outdoor spaces to step out to in favorable weather.
